Imperial Agents: Sisters of Battle (Part 1 - Rhino)

I haven't gone totally mad this time. Not totally. In as much as I haven't started a totally new army, that is (I'll leave you to make your own minds up about the cucumber and the claw-hammer).

No - not a whole army, just a small allied force to occasionally add some colour (well, black, mostly) to my Marine and Astra Militarum forces, from time to time. Aside from this Rhino, there will be one Seraphim squad, one Battle Sisters squad and one Canoness. And that's it.

Just because.

Scenery: Ruined Buildings (part 4 - other two finished)

To finish off this mini-project (which has, unfortunately, caused me to get the "scenery bug" - so more scenery projects will be forthcoming), I present the other two buildings from this four building set.

Four buildings is not bad for about £3 of foamcore, a £1 emulsion matchpot, some cereal-box card, a drinking straw and some sand. I'm very pleased with these and itching to do more, but I've made promises to myself and have other commitments. I've got some games coming up that I need to prepare for and made a New Year's resolution to complete some models I started a decade ago.

Trying hard to stick to my guns (mind you I've done that before - superglue can be a pain).

Scenery: Ruined Buildings (part 3 - first two finished)

Well, I broke my promise to myself (I'd said I was going to let this project lie and go back to completing the work I'd been doing to prepare myself for my upcoming Warhammer World visit) and completed the work on these models.

Here are the first two (the others need some finishing touches):

Am I happy? Yes I am!

Scenery: Ruined Buildings (part 2)

Now here's a project I really enjoyed! I wish I had time at the moment to do more, but as this was a distraction from stuff I should really have been working on, I guess "more" will have to wait (a little while, at least).

So, since you last saw these constructions, a few things have changed:

  • They've been given two coats of my home-made textured paint (a dark grey tester-pot of emulsion with some PVA and sand added),
  • They've been mightily drybrushed,
  • Some additional details like windowsills and lintels have been added (there were a few missing!),
They're far closer to being ready for the tabletop now and I'm very, very pleased with them.

Scenery: Ruined Buildings (part 1)

I've distracted myself again!

There I was, happily plugging away with getting some models ready for a get-together with my mate Mike at Warhammer World, when in a moment of idleness I decided to watch a Terrain Tutor video.

Mistake.

I selected a random video (I get emails from TTT's youTube channel and just picked one at random and followed the link within) and watched him hacking bits of foamcore apart for about 15 minutes, then painting them up with some home-made textured paint.

Hooked.

Thoughts of building my own inveigled themselves into all the little grooves and channels between the sensible bits of my brain. I started thinking about brickwork, drainpipes, floor tiles and corrugated iron sheets. Worse than that, I then started thinking about what I could build afterwards. Viking longhouses, factories, cooling towers, pipelines - the list goes on and on. It didn't help that I recently read a great blog post by Stiubhart MacChollie about making dirt roads and wanted to do that too!

Worse was to come. On a day out with the family, I had to drive past the very shop I could buy everything I needed to get started.

But I'm strong - I resisted.

Until we were on the way home again and it was 10 mins before the shop was due to close; then I caved. I went in and came out carrying foamcore. Strong my hairy (yet surprisingly pert) ass.

I hate myself.

Anyway, I've made a start on four buildings and will post progress  reports as I progress.

So far, they look like this:

Sorry about the crummy photos - I'll improve on them for the next update.
