Stormcast Eternals - Part 7 - Vanguard Hunters

I'm having a love-hate relationship with this army.

Generally speaking I've enjoyed painting them. I totally didn't ever want to paint Ultramarines, but picking these guys up enabled me to paint Sigmarines with a nod to Ultramarine colours without making an army that looked silly ("Who's idea was it to make our camo bright blue? <FOOM!>").

I loved painting the Lord Relictor. I was originally cheesed off with painting my first unit of Liberators. My second unit of Liberators was more fun. I really enjoyed the Prosectors. These guys (largely due to the heads & faces) I hated. No matter what I tried I couldn't get a result I was even close to being happy with.

Ho hum.

Stormcast Eternals - Part 6 - Liberators 2

As always, leaping back and forth between projects.

Many weeks ago I wrote a post showing what was next in line for my slowly growing Stormcast force. I've finally got some actual paint down and am able to share with you the results.

Of course those horrible GW types have gone and released Soul Wars since so my army (and therefore to-do list) is about to get a lot bigger.

I've actually completed two more units - these guys and some Vanguard Hunters who I will share in a following post.

Stormcast Eternals - Part 5 (What's next)

Now then - a good question.

I've got a quarter-full rattlecan of black primer and am itching to get some paint on these guys that I've been building up recently. In addition I've got a few more bits and bobs on the way too (more Palladors and a couple of Retributors) to flesh out this force.

Not enough paint to paint them all, so I'll pick & choose a few units, get spraying and then start laying down real paint.

Stormcast Eternals: Part 4 - Liberators 1

My mini Stormcast-binge comes to an end with this unit. I have more models to work on, but they will have to wait their turn.

Not my favourite models, these guys.

Not enough detail to make them interesting, and a lot of the detail that is there is ill-defined (I'm talking about you shoulder-pads).

The Liberator Prime is an exception - I enjoyed painting him.

I've done my usual here and stuck to a very limited palette - I try to use as few colours as possible when I work as I feel that too much colour just makes things look confused. So here it's basically red, blue and metals.

Stormcast Eternals: Part 3 - Lord Relictor

Another model rolls out of the workshop - I'm still on my small Stormcast binge and this time it's the
turn of the Lord Relictor. I'm putting off the batch I have to do next (some Liberators) as I find their models a little "flat" - there's not enough detail on them and they're a little dull to paint. What detail there is on the shoulder pads and tabards isn't sharp enough for my ageing eyes to do the best job on.

Anyway - it's not by accident that these guys are painted after a vaguely Ultramarines style. I've always like the bright blue of the Ultramarines, it just seemed a bit daft on a battlesuit in a setting where long ranged combat is king. I'd much rather be invisible than wearing a 8' tall "SHOOT HERE" sign.

In a fantasy setting I think there's more scope for colour, especially on a "high fantasy" force like the Stormcast. Maybe not so easy to get away with on something like Goblins or Ogres.

Wow! 100,000 hits!

When I started this blog I had no idea that it would ever be viewed by so many people.

I'd previously written a website using a HTML editor - a painful process that was an utter failure in that the website never got more than a couple of hundred hits.

So as the hits started racking up on this blog I was stunned.

Thanks to everyone who has ever checked in - I'm grateful you've taken the time to do so.

Stormcast Eternals: Part 2 - Decimators 1

And so here we are with the second real post showing my Stormcast offering.

I was intending to post up my Lord Relictor at this point as I was working on him and envisaged completing him before I completed these guys. It didn't turn out that way - there are still a few outstanding details on the Lord Relictor whilst these happy chappies are finished.

Stormcast Eternals: Part 1 - Prosecutors 1

The painting rota has rotated on a step and told me it's time to paint some Age of Sigmar models. As the Stormcast are slightly higher up my list than the Kharadron they get some attention first.

Stormcast seem to be fielded in quite small unit chunks so I'm doing a batch - their will be some Liberators, Decimators and a Lord Relictor to follow on from this post. Then probably a bit of W30K Death Guard and then back to AoS for some Kharadron.

Anyway, without further ado, here is the first "real" unit for my Stormcast Eternals:

Stormcast Eternals: Test model

OK - it's official. I've lost my mind, gone fishing, out to lunch. Bats in the belfry, a total nutjob, flibble, wibble, gibber, gribbly.

I've started ANOTHER TWO PROJECTS!

I've been looking at the Kharadron Overlord models that GW have just released for Age of Sigmar. Now I've never played AoS. No reason other than I've not had an opportunity. I've been very impressed with a lot of the new models that GW have released for it but until now - knowing I have no chance to play at the moment due to "life" - I've not picked any up.

That's been bugging me. I consider GW to be the Microsoft of the gaming world - ubiquitous, unescapable and not always responsible for the best products out there. That said, I've been a GW man since the early days of Warhammer - I started shortly after the 2nd Edition was released. I was sad when they dropped it even though I could see why they did it.

And I've just not made the jump yet.

Then the Kharadron guys came out. Wow! I like them!. They got me thinking in all sorts of ways: AoS (obviously), Squats (and I know a lot of others have had the same thought), Forge Fathers (for Mantic's Sci-Fi setting).

So I resolved to grab some.

I started by picking up some rules - I ordered the Kharadron Overlords book as well as the "Order" and "Chaos" Grand Alliance books. I ordered the Arkanaut Admiral model and an AoS "Getting Started" booklet. I was busy working on other things when the parcel arrived so other than reading through the books I didn't get a chance to start working on the Kharadron model. The "Getting Started" booklet arrived late. Timing: It arrived the day I finished working on another mini. So as always, my plan to get underway with the Kharadron was scuppered by the fact that the booklet - when it arrived - had a free Stormcast model attached.

So I painted him, and here he is:
