Stormcast Eternals: Test model

OK - it's official. I've lost my mind, gone fishing, out to lunch. Bats in the belfry, a total nutjob, flibble, wibble, gibber, gribbly.

I've started ANOTHER TWO PROJECTS!

I've been looking at the Kharadron Overlord models that GW have just released for Age of Sigmar. Now I've never played AoS. No reason other than I've not had an opportunity. I've been very impressed with a lot of the new models that GW have released for it but until now - knowing I have no chance to play at the moment due to "life" - I've not picked any up.

That's been bugging me. I consider GW to be the Microsoft of the gaming world - ubiquitous, unescapable and not always responsible for the best products out there. That said, I've been a GW man since the early days of Warhammer - I started shortly after the 2nd Edition was released. I was sad when they dropped it even though I could see why they did it.

And I've just not made the jump yet.

Then the Kharadron guys came out. Wow! I like them!. They got me thinking in all sorts of ways: AoS (obviously), Squats (and I know a lot of others have had the same thought), Forge Fathers (for Mantic's Sci-Fi setting).

So I resolved to grab some.

I started by picking up some rules - I ordered the Kharadron Overlords book as well as the "Order" and "Chaos" Grand Alliance books. I ordered the Arkanaut Admiral model and an AoS "Getting Started" booklet. I was busy working on other things when the parcel arrived so other than reading through the books I didn't get a chance to start working on the Kharadron model. The "Getting Started" booklet arrived late. Timing: It arrived the day I finished working on another mini. So as always, my plan to get underway with the Kharadron was scuppered by the fact that the booklet - when it arrived - had a free Stormcast model attached.

So I painted him, and here he is:

Heresy Death Guard: Primarch Mortarion

I was browsing around ebay looking for viable models to represent Mortarion when I stumbled across this guy. He is apparently a model made by Reaper and now long OOP. Being a pewter model he has some serious heft to him!

I stripped off the original paintjob which was, to be honest, a bit of a mess. He was disassembled, drilled, pinned painted and reassembled.

This model (especially as I am using him as a Heresy-era Mortarion) is clearly in a post Isstvan state - Nurgle has visited many gifts upon him. I kept him painted in regular Death Guard colours as I wanted cohesion on the tabletop.

Wings? Why not. They sprout from his backpack and clearly have mechanical elements to them. To my mind they make him look a lot more impressive and they can represent his "fleet" rule.

"Silence" his war-scythe is clearly represented on the model, but - sadly - "The Lantern" his hand-gun isn't.

You can't have everything, I guess.

I've photographed him alongside my test model in order to show scale.

Heresy Death Guard: Test model

Again! I've done it again! What a muppet!

So here I am with a whole bunch of active projects on the go, and I have added more to my worksheet. Why? Because I made the mistake of starting to read the Horus Heresy series after picking up the first 15 novels as eBooks due to the "Humble Bundle" charity. I'm afraid this particular bundle is over now, but the site is well worth keeping an eye on.

Anyway. A few years back I decided to start a Heresy army. I wanted to do it (as always) on the cheap. I'd also just signed up to the "Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader Style" Google+ Community so I decided to kill two birds with one stone. I spent a small amount of money on a large amount of models (thanks again, eBay) and added them to some models I already had.

The promptly went into "the dettol-bucket of shame" and have stayed there since.

Until now!

I proudly present my test model for the army: a metal model from about 30 years ago. He will most likely become the sergeant for my first tactical squad.

Nurgle Knight Titans - Part 10 (First Knight Finished)

So here is my fist completed Nurgle Knight!

This fella was great fun to build and paint. I'm really looking forward to doing the other two to join it on the battlefield. It turned out exactly the way I wanted it to and I'm dead pleased. I'm normally happy with the way my models turn out but they often don't actually turn out the way I'd envisaged. This model is exactly what I'd hoped for.

Kings of War: Ogres (Shooters Unit 1)

Feeling guilty about lack of progress on my Ogres I have had a small push on the heels of completing the Ogre Captain model and finished painting a unit of Shooters (crossbowmen).

This takes me past the half-way mark of the models that were in the Ogre stater set I bought from Mantic. I am, however, nowhere near actually being half-way through the models I own as I also have a Mammoth, a Chariot regiment, the other half of the starter set and forty goblins to paint up.

This is the downside to juggling so many projects - it's easy for some to get left by the wayside.

I think I might alter my approach a little - pick a "primary project" and focus on that with little forays into the others as "lesser projects". When I complete a primary, I can promote a lesser to primary and crack on.

I'll give that some thought. Apart from anything else: what would I choose to be the first primary?

Dilemmas, dilemmas.
